Solomon Pitt | Michael Pignéguy

DISSENT

The thrilling chemistry forged by Michael and Solomon was borne out of collaborations the pair undertook in mid 2022. What was to be a short alliance has blossomed into a productive partnership resulting in a significant outpouring of dynamic musical offerings that have been completed without the pair breaking a sweat.

Their creative energy appears to find its greatest release in the refrains of songs such as Forgets and Second Line Bo where plaintive vocal melodies sail freely over layered strands provided by drums, percussion and cyclic keyboards. Key rhythmic elements spring from the foundational genres of soul and early funk but there is an epic nature to some of the works which seems inspired by mega groups such as Queen.

Hooky vocal phrases often begin in unlikely moments which catch the listener off guard. They capture our attention allowing us to be led in unlikely and stimulating directions. Instrumental support is given first from the rhythm section while conversational elements are provided from the front line of flute, trumpet and vibraphone where velvety smoothness can give way to pointed rebuttal of vocal ideas. This highlights a feeling of spontaneous interaction which is the cornerstone of this project.
