Copy Cat for Two or More Drumsets
Overview: This fun multiple drumset piece is designed for students in their first year of lessons. It can be performed by 2 drummers or 2 groups of drummers and can be broken down into 3 main sections:
Instrumentation: 2,4,6 or 8 drumset players
For the player or players doing the Drumset 1 part, this includes the tom & rim section at B, the ride cymbal groove at C and the 1 + (2) + 3 + 4 motif which occurs multiple times throughout the piece. If you like, these can be taught by ear to start with, prior to introducing the notation. The other simpler sections can be added after students are comfortable moving back & forward between these main sections For the player or players doing the Drumset 2 part, the main components include the floor tom and snare section at B & D, the HH groove at B, the rim section at C and the same motif as before 1 + (2) + 3 + 4.
There is some latitude available on where some parts can be played, for example you'll notice on the video I played some of the rims parts on Toms 1 & 2 instead of Tom 1 and the floor Tom. Feel free to you use the YouTube video. On it you can pan between the channels. By doing this you can favour either of the parts so that students can either play along with their own part or with the complimentary one. Enjoy!
