For decades, Michael has been absorbing & embracing international cultures, a process that has very much shaped his identity and plays out through his music. Born in Sydney, then brought up in New Zealand, before further establishing his artistic career in Perth, Michael then explored international opportunities for a x 12 year period, from a base in the UAE, eventually settling in Doha (Qatar), until 2018. The diversity of these experiences to date, have granted him many opportunities artistically. In this section we’ll report on his current projects and update each as they progress and grow, further contributing to his ever building musical repertoire. We will also be posting some noteworthy projects from his past.

Michael met Alemay in recent years, through an expat Australian, living in Singapore, saxophonist - Nicole Duffell, who had formerly collaborated with Trilby Temperley. After the connection was made, Alemay & Michael agreed to some day record & perform together. From there onwards the relationship grew from Singapore to Doha, then Perth, while they exchanged ideas about songs & music and new tracks took shape. On Michael's way to Doha for some shows early January 2019, additional performances were arranged in Kuala Lumpur, where they met and got to share the stage for the very first time. As hoped the experience was mutually enjoyable, including the crowd response to the live debut of one of their yet to be titled, co-written tracks.
The days that followed the live shows, they caught up in the studio and the recordings were put down, in preparation for future releases. A second, follow up session took place when Alemay was in Perth for live performances in February, at Michael's Fremantle based premises Studio 42.

Michael + Anton (Russia) and Oleg (Ukraine) met collectively for the first time in Hamad International Airport (2014) on their way to a show in Eritrea, Africa, initiated by Jazz At Lincoln Centre. The trio had never performed together before, prior to that show. Oleg & Michael were already known to each other, through work they had been doing at The Qatar Music Academy, including Oleg performing with the Awakenings Ensemble. Oleg & Anton had become acquainted through a mutual contact in Thailand - renowned guitarist, Jack Thammarat
The George Gershwin classic Summertime (the basis for Mega Jam) had already been a staple in the Awakenings Ensemble repertoire, both live & recorded, thus becoming the obvious choice of focus for this multi-country studio session & radical reworking project, by Michael.
Phil Douglas perfectly captures the classic nature of the original composition, with his retro video treatment & edit
